Description

1798 Draped Bust Dollar, Hearldic Eagle, PCGS Genuine, Very Fine Details, Cleaning. This is the pointed 9, 4 lines variety. This lovely example is clearly on the high end of the VF grade, which theoretically spans a numeric grade of 20 to 40. Too bad the grading service couldn't be a bit more specific when addressing a span this large. The cleaning is light, very unobtrusive, and very old, with medium deep toning in grey, blue, and a hint of rose. Excellent detail adorns both sides, with some luster in evidence. The strike is slightly uneven, being a bit soft at just the bottom portion of the date and adjacent denticles, and perhaps the determining factor that this did not garner a higher details grade. Very nice coin!
