    by WINSLOW HOMER
    Harper's Weekly —
    Dec. 3,
    1864
This is an attractive wood engraved single sheet from a Civil War issue of
    Harper's Weekly,
the most popular illustrated paper in America during the second half of the 1800s.
It is over 150 years old
    .
This overall sheet measures 11 x 15 inches in size. It is in excellent condition, with only light tanning from age and a slight bit of wear along the edges.
    The engraving was drawn by
    WINSLOW HOMER
, early in his career, when he was employed by
    Harper’s
as an artist covering the Civil War. Most of his scenes of this genre were of the Union Army in its quieter times, in between battle actions. This print shows three Yankee soldiers relaxing after Thanksgiving dinner, pulling apart the wishbone from the turkey they’d just consumed.
