University Miami Columbus Iselin service pin
HISTORY:
A very long time ago (1989 / 1990) I worked on the University of Miami oceanographic research vessel named the Columbus Iselin. We basically carried a small group of scientist from different universities on their quest to research a variety of subjects .... from sharks / coral / ocean currents, etc. / etc., and even to study centuries old mud in the Amazon river. This is a collection of items I purchased / owned or used during our off and on six month journey to Brazil. Between trips with different groups of scientist we would gather at a local bar in a park in Belem, Brazil .....  "Bar De Parque" .... for a beer / drink, and the kids would arrive attempting to sell us some of the items shown. I am listing them as a group for now, but will be listing some of the items separately at a later date when I have more time to give a full description of them individually.
There was (is) an interesting article in a newspaper "South Florida Sun Sentinel" about the Columbus Iselin and it's history, the trips, the mishaps that I found to be somewhat different from my adventures aboard this ship. But, for the record, I was not on board when the knife incident occurred, robbery, or when it ran aground on the coral reef, thank goodness. I did serve as a crew member for two years, mostly plying the waters in the Bahama's, but as mentioned, also made the Brazil trip and the one to Woods Hole, plus, to so many islands in the Caribbean, I can't begin to name them all.
Local pick up only ........ we live near Perimeter Mall, close to Ga. 400 and I-285.

Due to size and shape of these items, we are NOT offering shipping as that would cost too much, especially due to the Cerpa beer crate, but I will be offering shipping on some of the smaller items as I list them individually.
