Description
Original Antique Engraving - Confederate Gen. Early Recrossing the PotomacGeneral Jubal Early's Troops returning to Virginia after getting within a few miles of the capital. - July, 1864
A small but impressive engraving of a large vista showing Confederate cavalry and wagons recrossing the Potomac River
back into Virginia after their failed attempt to capture the Capital of Washington. Early's decision to rest his men for a day before the final assault gave the Union Army time to rush in reinforcements.
Don't know what publication this illustration appeared in, it had already been cut from a page and was loose when I acquired it. But it was almost certainly a Harper's or Leslie's.
Excellent condition. A little 'time-toned' as expected. Partially related text on the back side. Image size: 3-1/4" x 9"
Paper size: 4-1/2" x 10"
