Description
Orig Antique Civil War Engraving "Zouaves at Battle of Antietam"Published in Frank Leslie's "Famous Leaders and Battles of the Civil War" - 1896
This illustration was originally published in Frank Leslie's Newsletter in 1862, shortly after the event occurred. All these exact same artworks were re-published after the war by Leslie's wife, after his death.
As you can read in the caption beneath the image, this illustrates Hawkins' Zouaves conducting a bayonet charge at the Battle of Antietam.
Print is in very good condition. No stains, holes or tears. A very light discoloration in the top and right side margins. There's engraved portraits on the back side. Generals Ord, Barlow and Sharpe.
Paper size is 10" x 15"
Note: For a reason I can't explain, my photos of these larger engravings wind up looking wishy- washy, like watercolors! To get a better idea of what the engraving actually looks like, I've added a scan of part of the print. It's too big for my scanner to scan the whole image.
