This was the first battle of Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant's Virginia campaign against General Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army. It took place on May 5, 6 and 7 in 1864. After all the horrendous casualties, the result was inconclusive. Both sides withdrew.
A steel engraving after a painting by Alonzo Chappel. Excellent condition of the image, clean, sharp and bright, but there is a small crease in the top left corner, well outside the image. Wide margins.
